TIDE
Dance: Bettina Neuhaus, Gianna Grünig
Bass: Martina Berther
Tide: Middle English 'time, season; recurring interval, space of time'.
Also, 'the daily fluctuation in the level of the sea caused by the gravitational influence of the moon and the sun'.
We performed in two unique spaces who resist gentrification. Tripity in Bern used to be a carpentry workshop and Rotes Haus in Luzern was a water-gas splitting electricity building. It is deeply meaningful to us, in our present times, where spaces like this disappear more and more, to bring our moving bodies and instruments in there. To keep these spaces alive, not only in the moment, but also in our memories, to celebrate their aliveness and their rough imperfections. Gaston Bachelard writes in The Poetics of Space, chapter House and Universe: we reach a point where we doubt that we ever lived where we lived (…) This house, as I see it, is sort of an airy structure that moves about on the breath of time. It really is open to the wind of another time. (…) The universe comes to inhabit the house. There is a state of impermanence within these places we performed TIDE in, nearly as impermanent as a real time performance in itself.
Performances: 22nd May 2025 at Rotes Haus Luzern and 23rd May 2025 at Tripity, Bern
